The Grimenothyrai were a people who lived in central Phrygia between Akmoneia and Temenothyrae. They had two cities – Grimenothryae and Traianoupolis. The name of the city is believed to mean “Shrine of Grimenos”, where Grimenos was an unknown Phrygian deity. It was likely founded during Seleucid times, but rose to prominence under the Romans.
