Thermai Himeraiai is the modern day town of Termini Imerese. It was founded in 409 BCE when its neighbor, Himera, was completely destroyed by the Carthaginians. The people then founded a new city, Thermai Himeraiai.

In ancient times, famous hot springs were at the town and gave it its name. The city was heavily involved in the First Punic War in 260 BCE and was defeated by Hamilcar.
