The Oitaioi were a tribe whose capital became Herakleia Trachinea. Their bronze coinage resembles that of the Aetolian League, likely indicating that the Oitaioi were part of the Aetolian League when this coin was minted.

Both contained a spear and the jaws of the Kalydonian Boar, which per legend lived in the area.

The Kalydonian Boar hunt was one of the great adventures in Greek mythology, with a number of the biggest names of the era joining together to hunt the beast. The boar was wounded by Atalanta before being killed by Meleager.
