Kanatha was located at the modern day city of Qanawat, Syria. The city was ancient even in the Hellenistic times, with attestations potentially reaching back to the 20th or 19th centuries BCE.
During Hellenistic times, it was disputed between the Nabataeans and Judeans. It eventually became a member city of the Decapolis, and in the first century CE was annexed to the Roman province of Syria. It later became part of the province of Arabia. Many of its ruins can still be visited.
