Pylos was a powerful ancient kingdom and was the seat of Nestor, from Iliad fame. During Mycenaean times it was the capital of the Peloponnese and was reknowned as a rich city. Today, an important Mycenaean palace is still visitable at the site, and is appropriately called the “Palace of Nestor”.
