The hekte (or hecté), a small ancient Greek coin, was part of the series of coins used by the city-states during the Classical and Hellenistic periods. Its name is derived from the Greek word “hekte,” meaning “one-sixth,” because it was worth one-sixth of a drachm. The hekte was a fractional coin, smaller in size and value than the more commonly used drachm, and was primarily used for everyday transactions in regions where smaller denominations were necessary for routine trade.
