As is typical with many of the Sicilian mints, little is known about Menainon, which is today called Mineo. At least we know where it was.
The city was founded in the 5th century BCE by King Ducezio. The remains of his castle may still be seen, though I suspect that this is the actual acropolis of the ancient city.
The Romans later turned it into a fort and today roughly five thousand people live there.
