Ilipense was also known as Ilipa Magna and was located near the right bank of the River Betis, now known as the Guadalquivir. Today, it is part of the province of Seville, Spain.

In these times, it was a well-fortified city that also served as a center of agriculture, and was fed by an aqueduct that no longer exists.

In the Battle of Ilipa, fought near the city, the Carthaginian hegemony in Iberia was ended by Scipio Africanus. A few ruins of the city are visible.
