People in this city were quite literally “in the Zone”. I’ve always thought it was one of the odder names for an ancient city, though back in those times it probably went to Pordoselene.

Herodotus mentioned Zone as the place where Xerxes counted his troops. By 422 BCE, it appeared in Delian League tribute lists.

Until recently, the location of the ancient ruins was unknown.
