We don’t know too much about Syangela, though we do know that – when cities were combined by Mausolos to create Halikarnassos, Syangela wasn’t among them. Only it and Myndos were spared.

In fact, not only did Mausolos spare Syangela, but he enlarged it and renamed it Theangela. We’re not quite sure if Syangela and Theangela were the exact same city, or if the Persians destroyed Syangela and a new city called Theanglea was built not that far away by Mausolos.

The ruins today are reasonably preserved.
