Phasis was a colony of Miletos founded on the shore of the Black Sea in modern day Georgia. The city was mentioned in the story of Jason and the Argonauts.
However, despite numerous mentions in historical sources, we’re not entirely sure where the ancient city was. It’s believed to be near the modern city of Poti, Georgia.
The word “pheasant” has its origins in the city “Phasis”.
