Artemis Munychia was named after the hill Munichia, near Piraios and the site of the Battle of Salamis. The festival was initiated to commemorate the Greek victory over the Persians at Salamis and was celebrated by round cakes with candles offered to Artemis. Young girls celebrated by dressing up as bears.
