Mastaura is proof that so much history still remains buried under us. During a search of the ruins recently, an entire amphitheater was found, only the third such in Turkey. While it has nowhere near the preservation of the Colosseum, it’s still remarkable.
Pliny mentions Mastaura as entirely dependent on nearby Ephesos. Later, during the Severan times, it’s believed to have reached the grandeur represented by the ruins.
