In ancient times, Korykos was the port for Seleukeia. Today, there’s a beautiful fortress on the water here. Supposedly it was foretold that a princess would die from a snake bite, so the king built the castle on the water and sent her there. Unfortunately, the snake was sent via a basket, bit her, and she died.
Nearby is a location where, according to Strabo, the best saffron grew.
Ruins of the city remain and may be visited.
