Today, we’re not quite sure where Gaziura was located. It may be the same as the ancient city of Talaura, or it may have been completely different. The location given here is of the modern day city of Turhal, which is one suspected site.
At one time, it was of high importance. The city was the residence of the kings of Pontos and was used by Mithridates VI as a position against the Romans. Strabo reported that by his time it was deserted. Many ancient coins were minted here over a long period of time.
