Eikonion, though a small city when this was minted, is the modern day city of Konya, Turkey. It is the capital of the Konya province and a major city in Turkey with roughly 2.3 million people.

Like many cities of Anatolia, its history goes back thousands of years. After Alexander the Great‘s death, it fell under Seleukos I Nikator and later became part of the Kingdom of Pergamon.
