I find it interesting that so many of the ancient Italian cities are practically unknown. Take for example Compulteria, which was in Campania on the Samnian border (though there were rarely such borders in antiquity)

The city was also known by the name Cubulteria and the inscription is in the Oscan language.

It definitely did itself no favors by allying with Hannibal against Rome, which led to its destruction by the Roman general Quintus Fabius Maximus.
