Very little is known about Autokane. Strabo doesn’t mention it, although Homer does once give the name of its eponymous mountain. It was not listed in ancient times as among the twelve most important cities of Aeolis, so it must have been small.
Despite that, there bronze coinage is relatively common and is easier to obtain than some of the more important cities in Aeolis – such as Neonteichos.
The city today has not been located.
