Armenian Kingdom Chalkous Mithradates
circa 180s-170s BCE
AE Chalkous 12mm 1.10g
Obv: draped bust of Mithradates to left, bearded and wearing upright bashlyk tied with a diadem
Rev: BACIΛЄⲰC MIΘPAΔATO
Kovacs 27 corr. (‘Mithradates I of Sophene’)

I must admit I haven’t been able to exactly figure out how Mithradates figured in the scheme of things. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t an Artiaxid ruler, but I don’t know who came before or after him – if anyone.

For what it’s worth, the coin says BACIΛЄⲰC MIΘPAΔATO or “King Mithridates”.

260 BCE

228 BCE

Death of Arsames I. His eldest son Xerxes becomes king of Commagene, Sophene and Armenia.
