Iaitas was a fortress city not far from Panormus. It was mentioned by Thukydides when the Spartan general Gylippos took the city as he headed to Himera. It was next taken by Pyrrhos, who besieged it to gain its position relative to Panormus. However, the city quickly surrendered.
During the Punic War it was occupied by Carthage, but later capitulated to the Romans.
