Emporiton was also known as Empúries and in Spanish Ampurias. It was founded in 575 by Greek colonists from Phokaia and was occupied by the Romans in 218 BCE, making it he first city conquered by them in Hispania. In the scuffle between Julius Caesar and Pompey, the city chose the wrong answer in Pompey and subsequently lost its autonomy. It was soon after settled by Roman veterans.

Significant remains of the city exist, though they require some imagination.
