Pausanias mentioned that the gates of the city walls of Gythion were sacred to Kastor, one of the Dioscuri. Therefore, this coin with their image may depict a statue that stood above those gates. Today, much of the ancient city of Gythion is underwater. Traces of the city walls may be seen, but obviously nothing of the statue.
