The ruins of Phellos today contain a number of ancient tombs, and the history of the city extends at least as far back as the 6th century BCE, when it was an important Lycian city. Some of the Xanthian royal family lived there.
Its port was Antiphellos, which eventually surpassed its parent city in importance.
The ruins today are visitable, but not well known. A footpath leads to the ruins, which are overgrown. Coins from Phellos are rare.
