Adana today is a major city in Turkey and has a history dating back at least 4000 years. Most of the history of Adana is synonymous with the history of Cilicia, coming under the control of Alexander the Great in 333 BCE, then controlled by the Ptolemies and Seleukids.
For a brief time, the city was renamed to Antioch on the Sarus.
