Tavium was the seat of the Trocmi Galatian tribe. Most of the city’s coinage comes from Roman times, though this one is early and may have been minted during the time of King Brogitaros. A giant bronze statue of Zeus was once located there.

Most of the ruins were removed as building materials for the neighboring village.
