As the name implies, Miletopolis was a colony of Miletos. It was situated next to a lake also called Miletopolis. According to Strabo, at some point the city was devastated and the inhabitants moved to Gargara.
While not much more would seem to be judged from its coinage, both the coins of Miletopolis and Gargara feature Apollo, so the inhabitants must have brought their worship of him to the new city. However, instead of a bull, the Gargara coin features a horse, which is more typical of the Troad.
