Alinda has existed since at least the second millennium BCE and was mentioned in Hittite sources. During the time of Alexander the Great, it was renamed to Alexandria by the Latmos, though by 81 BCE the name of Alinda was restored.
The city contained a temple to Apollo, which contained a statue of Aphrodite by Praxiteles.
Much of the remains of the city still stand, including the agora, amphitheater, and an aqueduct. However, the site has been prone to destruction by the locals, including the demolishing of 4km of ancient roads in 2018.
