Not a lot is known about the city of Metropolis in Thessaly (differentiating it from others, such as in Akarnania). Strabo mentions that it was constructed from three smaller towns, after which some others were added.
The city featured more heavily during the Roman invasion, where they faced off against the Aetolians and where much later Julius Caesar’s army passed.
This particular type is rare.
