The coinage of Skamandria is often confused with Skepsis, and admittedly I believed for some time that I’d accidentally purchased two coins from Skepsis instead of one from each place. However, after further investigation I now believe this is indeed from Skamandria. The confusion is largely because their spelling is very similar.
Skamandria was only cited by Pliny as a small city that still existed in his time and was situated a mile and a half from its harbor. Little else is known about it.
This coin shows how difficult it can be to attribute some of these coins. I thought for sure this was Mykonos, but alas it turned out to be a (still rare) issue from Skamandria.
