Alexander the Great

Alexander the Great conquered half the known world in a span of ten years. During his military exploits, he never lost a battle. No other military figure in history has been as successful.

His coinage, with the image of Herakles wearing a headdress made of the Nemean lion on the reverse and Baal/Zeus (depending on your point of view) on the reverse, continued for roughly two hundred years after his death.

Roughly five hundred years after his death, a wide series of coins was issued under the Koinon of Macedon. Most of these included an image of Alexander in various poses on the obverse, and many also included him on the reverse.
